Assignments

Hi,
I require ALL outstanding assignments by the end of this week as i need to start entering your grades. Last chance. If any problems come and see me or give me a call. Those who have not done BUIT 4544 could you print out your assignment from moodle to save me some time when i am marking them. See you all on Wenesday.
Thanks.

Three weeks to go!

Hi,
Only three weeks to go. I was shocked to only have received a few assignments(BUIT 4544) The ones i have got i have marked. At this stage of the course i require all outstanding assignments as soon as possible so i can collate your marks. The houses have to be finished so we all need to put in a big effort to get them complete. If we all turned up on time and stayed all day we will achieve this without a problem. This Wednesday we probably will start our presentation on BUIT 4545 so be prepared for this. We also have to tidy up the last presentation so those who have not completed this you know who you are.
See you all Wednesday.

Nov 9th 2011 - Gib

Hi All,

This week some of us will finish off Gibbing and moving on to hanging Doors & installing interior trim's (these includes cornice/scotia, skirting, architrave and lately door stop). It would pay to read the notes in moodle.unitec.ac.nz, and grasp ideas as to how things are to be done before showing up to class, that way while doing the practical you will find out the "why's" instead of knowing just the "how's"..

Also, its a week to due date for 4545, remember there's 2x5 mins presentation attach to it. Be there or be squared! lol~

Nov 2nd 2011 - Gib

I guess we are still on GIB tomorrow.. few more days to go before we can order the finishing trim and the doors.. lets keep up the pace and we should have some time left before the end of the year to reflect on our learning... :)

Gib

Hi all,
Tomorrow Wednesday the 12th i am wanting to do some work on the houses. I have already sent some of you guys an e mail asking if you are free. If you are free can you send me an e mail (dwix@unitec.ac.nz) and a contact number to let me know if you can make it. We would start at 9 am.

Thanks
Dave.
who has done any work on there diary's?
are the regular joist H3.1 or H1.2? I have to contradictory pieces of paper in front of me

ha, I've figured the stupid thing

plenty of fun today fixing up Joe/Jack/Mark/Gingers insulation, maybe next time everyone could learn how to install the insulation (or whatever is being worked on at the time) BEFORE it gets installed. Just an idea, but I think it could actually work

Morris' post

yeah! new look

assignemt 4544

why I can't upload pictures for my assignment on moodle...  so confuse.. but I learned more on how to set out weatherboards, cavity battens and flashings...... I like this staff..

Council Visit

Hi all,
This Wednesday the 14th we have a council visit from 1-3 pm. The visit is to show you what the council does in the sense of plans permits etc. If you could think of some questions you may like to ask about what they do before we get there that would be great. If you can not make it please let me know before Wednesday.
Hi,
Wednesday this week i need you all to have your portfolios for theory so we can get them all up to date and current. We will be re-visiting and reviewing the class exercise which Frank did with you. We will be doing more on BUIT 4544 Exterior wall and Roof Cladding's as well. BUIT 4541 is now due 7th September with your portfolios and BUIT 4544 is due 7th October.
See you all Wednesday.

Crazy Scaffold

Saw this one during the holiday at Jervois Road, between Herne Bay / Ponsonby area.. See how 1/3 of the 'wooden' scaffold is supported and the other 2/3rd is supported by "AIR".. hehe~ and the contractor (presumably the spray painter) relaxing on top of the scaffold?

If you have been reading your notes etc. you know this is .... Yes! Notifiable work.. But it looks a bit dodgy to me~ What do you think?

Welcome Back

Hi all, Hope you all had a great break. Wednesday the 3rd this week i need you all to bring in your Portfolios. I have some already. We need to go through this. We will also be looking at BUIT 4541 on Wednesday afternoon.

Hi all,
With your assignment that is due tomorrow i need your portfolios as well so i can tidy up the rest of BUIT 4540.
See you all tomorrow

Wednesday 15th June

Hi all again,
Wednesday  morning this week we will continue with the scaffold around the houses. Our trusses, double top plates and ceiling battens are arriving Wednesday also. Wednesday afternoon a guest from roll forming services is going to teach us about steel framing. So i will see you all Wednesday.

Frames

Hi all,
Great we have the frames up on both houses. This week we will be straightening the frames and start to put up the scaffold around both houses. After that the next process is the roof trusses. We will have theory on what we have done so far to re-cap and the next step in the building process.
Do not forget your assignment BUIT 4542 is due Wednesday morning at 8:30 am and i also need your portfolios for your workshop marks.
See you all Wednesday.

Flooring and Frames

Thanks Steve for the great post, This week three or four students in my group will be finishing the floor we started last week ready for Frames on Thursday this week. Franks house we will all get stuck in to get it finished by Friday ready for the frames next Wednesday. At this stage it is suppose to be fine weather until Thursday so i thought we would do practical Wednesday and Thursday and theory on Friday. This will give us a chance to go through your portfolios and catch up on anything that is required. We also have another BUIT to start. At this stage this is what is happening but as you know by now things might change.
So until Wednesday, take care and will see you all then.

Sharing - Hazard class for timber & others..

Hi all,

I personally subscribe NZ WOOD newsletter, and some time they send out e-news letter that can help you gain more knowledge in the field, the printable PDF files, which can help you distinguish the various grade of timber we use on site.

There's also one interesting read on flexible structure (Timber) comparing to rigid structure (Concrete) from the former engineer and Far North mayor Wayne Brown.

As we all will be working in the same "team", please take a read of the following installation guide before we start laying floors shortly:

2. Sheet Flooring: Carter Holt Harvey's Ultralock - Download and read the Installation Guide
3. Glues for Floors fixings: Holdfast - Gorilla Glue MSDS (Material Safe Data Sheet)

The application should look like this:

This week's toolbox meeting are not yet done, someone will have to think about it and lead the class.

Class this morning

Please make sure you read and understand the Kopine Ultralock Particleboard Flooring System which we talked about this morning in class so when we start the floor you understand what is going on.
Hopefully tomorrow we can get most of the floor down on one of the houses (weather permitting). We will all lay one house floor first then move to the next house.
Good chance to get assignments done today and catch up.
See you tomorrow

Photos,sub- floor

Wow, great job Mathew. Hope to see more from others. Good effort on Friday with the sub-floor. We should be able to start flooring on Wednesday on my house and Franks house a few more more nogs. See you all Wednesday.
